Who We Are
We are the Climate Crisis Working Group of Moore County, a local environmental group working together to bring awareness and education about fossil fuels and the impacts they have on the Earth. Our team is made up of passionate individuals who are dedicated to making a positive impact on our community and the planet. We believe that through education and action, we can create a better, more sustainable future for ourselves and future generations.
Our Mission is to study and share information about climate change and take effective climate action in Moore County and beyond.
Our Vision is an aware and empowered nation, united in rapidly stemming the impact of climate change and building climate resilience in our country and across the world.
History
The Climate Crisis Working Group of Moore County was formed in 2019 due to the climate crisis being an urgent global issue that transcends political divides, and as an independent working group, CCWG strives for conversations and collaborations with people across and throughout all our communities.
Over the past five years, we have written letters to the editor and to Senators and Representatives, testified in Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) hearings, and offered climate information and action at community events and presentations. Five of us are certified Climate Reality Project Leaders, which gives us great resources for learning more and sharing information about the climate crisis.
Our biggest accomplishments so far were two online Candidate Forums on Climate Change in the fall of 2020 just prior to the election. We had some very spirited discussions both in preparing for the forum and with the candidates who attended.
We have also partnered with the Moore County leadership of NAACP and League of Women Voters in annually sponsoring important climate-related film screenings at the Sunrise Theater, with panel discussions afterwards. We are also an affiliated group with BeyondPlastics.org.
Now, we are looking to expand and engage. We are especially excited about reaching out to the younger population in Moore County and helping them - and ourselves - find a stronger voice and take action and targeting single-use plastic pollution and waste.

FAQ
All these terms are confusing, and I don't know where to start.
Learning about anything takes time and research, and we understand that it can all be overwhelming. We have compiled a list of terms and definitions that are thrown around often during conversations around climate change!
How can I take action in my personal life?
There are lots of things that you can do to take action. Using reusable bags instead of plastic ones at grocery stores or having a set of to-go silverware in your lunch box or purse instead of using single-use plastic silverware is a great starting point. To see a more complete list of ways you can take action, see our Climate Action page!
How can I stay up to date with everything that is happening?
Staying informed is important, but it can be hard to find in the vastness of the internet. Our Weekend News Dump, which is sent out every Sunday, compiles the newest articles, videos, events, and legislation surrounding the Climate Crisis. It is dense but full of knowledgeable nuggets with the intent of keeping you informed and up to date.
